ENGLISH THEATRE WORKSHOP: A1 · A2 · B1
Which English theatre workshop fits your level? If you are just starting English or around A2, the A1–A2 English Drama Lab is a beginner class: body and situation first, words after. If you can hold an everyday conversation (around B1), English Drama Lab is the weekly workshop for improv and scene work in English. There is no placement test; write to us in English and we will place you together.
A1 and A2: the beginner class
A1 and A2 work in the same class, in Kadıköy and Taksim, year-round, two hours a week. Sessions start with games and movement, instructions are answered with the body, and nobody is pushed to speak. Everyday phrases are repeated inside situations. There are no books, exams or grades. Pre-registration is open: leave your details and we will call or write to find your group.
B1 and above: English Drama Lab
English Drama Lab runs in Pera and Kadıköy, with groups of up to twelve. Every week a new scene is built: improvisation, status games, partner work, all in English. You can join any week, and there is no memorised text. If you can keep an everyday conversation going, even with mistakes, you are at the right level.
Not sure which level you are?
Do not worry about the label. Think about what you can do: if you can tell a short story about your week with a beginning and an end, you are probably around B1. If you can introduce yourself and answer simple questions but stall after that, A2 is closer. Tell us in your message and we will suggest a group.
Moving up
The beginner class is not a dead end. As speaking practice grows, participants move to English Drama Lab. We do not promise a level jump in a set number of weeks; we work on what usually stalls people, which is using the language when the phrase you memorised runs out.

WHAT YOU CAN JOIN
questions
BEFORE YOU ASK
Is there a placement test?
No. Tell us in English what you can do and what you want from the workshop, and we will place you in the right group.
I am an expat and speak no Turkish. Can I sign up?
Yes. You can write to us, ask questions and register in English. The working language in the room is English.
What if I am between A2 and B1?
That is common. Write to us and describe a recent conversation you had in English; we will suggest the group that stretches you without losing you.
Do I need acting experience?
No. Most participants have never been on a stage. The work is games, improvisation and short scenes in a small group.
Questions in English are welcome. Tell us what you are looking for and we will point you to the right group.
